Premature electulation
We're hearing a lot along the lines of: 'Democrats will be swept into office by the Abramoff [Republican] scandals.' This runs strictly counter to empirical evidence. Haven't we endured years of Democratic scandals here in Jersey? Didn't we just elect a Democratic governor, anyway?
In Jersey, we've had real scandals, leading to real arrests and real indictments (not presumed indictments, which is all Abramoff adds up to at this point - remember the 'for certain' indictments we were going to see at Fitzmas?). Despite all the scandalous headlines, we elected Corzine, a loyal friend to Jersey's Democratic Party machine. Impropriety or allegations of same are only one factor in elections. So why are Democratic and leftist pundits crowing that this year's elections are all but decided, and in their favor?
The reaction to Abramoff is just the latest example of a debilitating but seldom-mentioned malady known as 'Premature Electulation'. This is defined as 'elation over an election or other political milestone long before it's certain or appropriate'. P.E. has rendered Democrats impotent for years, but it is now reaching crisis proportions. Unable to 'deliver the goods', today's Democrats have resigned themselves to hoping the other guy falls beneath their level of performance. We must not remain silent while this political killer goes unchecked.
Of course, it's not just the Dems who have fallen victim to the insidious spread of P.E.. Their media sympathizers have succumed as well. Examples of P.E.'s ravaging of the media abound.
P.E.-addled individuals such as these and these dominate leftist discourse. Their minds lost, these poor souls pour out gigabytes of mindless, hateful drivel onto leftist web sites.
When the right gets the latest Pat Robertson diatribe thrown in its face, he is widely denounced as a loon. But leftist minds are now so P.E.-ravaged, they embrace their own worst tendencies.

Love the phrase 'premature electulation' and think you should trademark it.
If anyone's been paying attnetion to the Dems on the hill this week as they grill Alito, there isn't enough scandal to reduce the Republican's numbers and more than enough bloviating and straight out lying to perhaps increase them.
(Wouldn't be nice to have a time machine so you could go back to 1969 and arrange for 2 people to drown in that canal? Or maybe just switch the roles of who survived and who didn't? Exactly why is Kennedy still in the senate. I'm sure his brothers are spinning in their graves.)
I too get a kick out of the Democrats' referring to the Republican "Culture of Corruption," when it is New Jersey, a Democrat Stronghold, that has made corruption an art form.
I also agree with joated in that it is difficult to believe that the Democrats won over any new voters this week. Indeed, I can easily imagine that the disgusting display put on by Kennedy, Schumer and company may have lost them some future votes. And then, of course, there is Howard Dean.
Premature eleculation, indeed.
Heh. Thanks guys.
Lawwsy, I had a premature expostulation and spit just a tiny bit on my screen when I read this. "Premature electualtion", indeed. Let's have some 'o that and get rid of some of those Congress people who are tired, poor, an' yearnin' to breathe free for the retirement homes that dot the countryside in New Jersey.
