Iraq to US: Please don't go
Does Iraq want the American military to leave? The answer is yes - if you ask the terrorists.
If you ask anyone else in the country, however, the answer is no, according to this Oxford Research poll.

{UPDATE: Iraq's election saw another huge turnout, with Sadaam's hometown - are you listening, Jack? - seeing an amazing 80%. The liberal blogs, as usual with news unsupportive of their dogma, are saying nothing about this historic event until they can find an angle supporting their POV.}
{UPDATE 2: As they did with the French riots, the liberal blogs have, after a pause to find an angle, begun tentative commenting. It's as embittered and tangential as we expected - the elections are illegitimate, they'll vote for the 'wrong' people, Bush is taking too much credit, no one cares about the poor, etc. On the eve of the election, the New York Times and AP had offered rationales for poor turnouts - but cautiously did not 'predict' them. Instead, they quoted others. In this way, if the elections were indeed poorly attended, the news outlets could claim to have so advised readers in advance. If the elections were well-attended, they could claim that they were merely reporting the views of others. The Politboro notices the same thing.}
{UPDATE 3: While 'activists' at home try to fudge the poll numbers (see comments, below), even the Washington Post admits that the vast majority of those truly active in the war - those fighting it - believe we will succeed if only they are allowed to continue their work.}
{UPDATE 4: One Iraqi woman's opinion (video).}
{UPDATE 5: Mudville on the meaning of today's vote.}

While most Iraqis probably do favor the U.S occupation, there is no way that that poll represents the entire country. I doubt that the poll was conducted in areas where the most fighting is taking place.

Let's break that statement down:
"No way that that poll represents the entire country"
"Most Iraqis probably do favor the U.S occupation"
So that poll does not represent the entire country - but it probably does.
" I doubt that the poll was conducted in areas where the most fighting is taking place."
So Iraqis answer these questions differently under duress, is that it? And you are implying that the poll is biased (being conducted only in areas where a certain result is assured), which is a serious charge. Do you have something -anything - of substance to back that up?
There is a link to a PDF showing precisely who was polled. You could have checked it out and demonstrated your position - if it's accurate. Of course, it's easier to express 'doubts' than offer facts. Is the poll incorrect? Is it biased? Are the military blogs which daily offer overwhelming support for the effort really just a government propaganda machine? Offer something we can hang our hat on, and we're glad to hear it. But don't just make empty charges.
Your 'doubt' implies that Iraqis believe that their country's problems would go away if only the Americans would do the same. That's a terrible assessment of the Iraqi character, but I can't say there's any proof of it. In fact, the evidence says just the opposite - that the Iraqis have been remarkably brave, resilient, and responsible. Besides the poll numbers, there's the fact that the vast majority have been coming out for elections despite substantial threats of violence. They have shown nothing but eagerness to take hold of the reins of their country's destiny, and despite your "doubt" have shown considerable courage.
We're happy that you stop by, Jack, but if you're going to leave comments here, offer something of more substance that the Democratic Party line. You can post that at any number of Jersey's leftist sites, and they'll pat you on the back and call you a truth-seeking hero. Here, it won't fly. On this site, compelling evidence, not reiteration of accepted dogma, is coin of the realm.
